An excellent and truly outstanding book - real classics and a real boon for the naval history enthusiasts. Written centuries ago, in 1736, it contains nothing on foreign practices, but contains as much important details on the French Navy of that period as do the famous "Remarques" for the English and Dutch Navies. Despite its alphabetical rather than thematic format, it repays careful reading. Taken together, the two manuscripts provide readers with the most detailed analysis of the ship construction technologies of three of Europe's foremost maritime powers ever written. The book by Blaire Olivier and David Roberts contains very useful info on French, English and Dutch shipbuilding industries.
