The content of the present guidebook was compiled by the world recognized experts of the maritime shipping industry. The premise behind it is quite simple - that casualties are commonly not that straightforward plus that the mariners involved in the casualties rarely have any previous experience. The authors of the publication have ad an ultimate intention to give some practical assistance to the mariners who were unfortunate enough to get into a casualty.

The book features a nice combination of the expertise and huge practical experience of the masters of the ships and salvors. Each of the chapters in these guidelines provides the background as to what masters or crew members should expect from people or organizations that may be engaged as the casualty gets unfolded.

The demands can actually be quite contradictory, sometimes confusing and unclear and even present a combination of all three. The chapters have been arranged in chronological order - such approach has been applied by the editor to demonstrate how ship masters would be dealing with people and also in order to give some general idea of what exactly should be undertaking, touching the major priorities and responsibilities...
