All seafarers know the high importance of responding quickly and appropriately to changing conditions at sea. Likewise, premier commercial maritime operators know the importance of adapting to such changes to keep an enterprise competitive. Nowadays, the biggest change the shipping industry faces is in the realm of technology. Years ago, it was more than enough to have a communications system installed on board for occasional calls or e-mails and emergency use, but today it is necessary to have 24/7 broadband connectivity in order to operate vessels effectively and efficiently. Indeed, affordable broadband connectivity linking ship at sea to shore will provide the ability to duly leverage the efficiency of a globally networked workforce. It goes without saying, that the optimal way to access and process information on a ship today is via fast, reliable broadband connectivity.
