This publication provides necessary information on NAVTEX which is an international automated direct-printing service for promulgation of navigational and meteorological warnings and any other urgent information to ships. In fact, it is one of the two principle methods which are in use broadcast maritime safety information as per the provisions of the SOLAS, 1974, as amended. The system was developed with the intention to provide a cheap, simple and automated means of receiving MSI and SAR alerts on board ships at sea as well as in coastal waters. The transmitted info may be relevant to all types and sizes of ships. The present manual is primarily intended for use by Flag Administrations and all other parties concerned with the preparation and broadcasting of MSI and it will definitely be of great interest to seamen, ship owners and others who need to receive such info to be able to go about their business at sea in safe manned.
