This publication was prepared by three recognized experts in the industry with the ultimate intention to disseminate the accumulated technical knowledge and applications of the Spanish scientific research groups that are working in the field of maritime robotics and automation. We have some discerning between control and guidance, when applied to the marine vehicles. The term "guidance" usually corresponds to the determining of the attitude, speed and course of the marine vehicle, relative to the established reference frame, eg. earth, that is to be followed by the above mentioned vehicle. The term "control" rather corresponds to the development and application to a marine vehicle of the various forces/moments for operating point control, tracking and stabilization, and this would involve the feedback/feedforward control laws.
