The book provides the comprehensive and thorough guidance on the automatic identification systems (AIS) displays used on board ships today. Over the past two decades, AIS have been developed in response to the concerns of safety and efficiency of marine transportation as well as prevention and response to ship-caused environment pollutions. As a result, the worldwide mandatory carriage requirements were developed for AIS aboard vessels that must comply with SOLAS and in discussions about non-SOLAS vessel carriage requirements in the USA. However, despite these efforts, little has been said about shipboard display of AIS information, a topic addressed in the present book.
