This book can easily be deemed a 'bible' for anyone studying Maritime Economics and principles of this. Martin Stopford is a mine of information and the skill of the book is that it really is more of a reference manual so vast is th area he covers. I used this book during my studies for Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers exams and specifically Economics of Sea Transport exam which I passed in 2011 and this book definitely helped! This is now in its 3rd edition and I hope that Dr Stopford can produce a 4th edition to update many of the major economic events that have engulfed the maritime industry over the last 4-5 years notably updates of data. This is not to say the book is out of date, that is its beauty as the principles of research into this fascinating subject and fundamentals are fixed. An excellent read and by my desk at all times for reference.

This book, the 4th edition, is an invaluable desk-top reference for anyone connected with commercial shipbroking and chartering. Covering both the legal and commercial principles that govern shipbroking practice, the book begins with a survey of the freight market and then deals with communication within the industry, marketing and sales contracts and documentation including bill of lading.
This book tells us much about the way all aspects of shipping have become codified and the enormous burden placed upon those in responsible positions to know, understand and implement correct practices. It is a compendium of Business and Law notes that may prove of some value to professional mariners in their day-to-day work.
