The publication which is now presented to your attention, contains the proceedings of the XIX International Liege Colloquium on Ocean Hydrodynamics, the subject of that Colloquium was Small-Scale Turbulence and Mixing on the Ocean. The Colloquium has been organized jointly by the Liege University and SCOR Working Group 69. For this purpose the Group created a Programme Committee which included K. Fedorov, C. Garrett, M. Gregg, S. Thorpe and J. Woods. The ultimate aim of the subject Committee was to develop, under the direction of Prof. J. Nihoul of the University of Liege the scientific programme of the Colloquium, to issue the announcement, and to invite contributions. The decision was made to focus the Colloquium programme on the relationships between small-scale mixing and large-scale features, processes and transports involved. In this connection, the presentation of papers on the different methods of parameterization of small scale turbulent mixing for various numerical ocean models was encouraged by the Programme Committee in particular...
