This book caters to a very wide range of readers, among them being industrial safety/operation/design engineers in general and marine/offshore specialists in particular. It may also serve as a useful thorough reference material to undergraduate/postgraduate students of Marine Technology, Safety/Reliability Engineering and General Engineering; it would be beneficial for industrial researchers and academics. This book is intended to serve as a good starting point for young safety engineers and apprentices who are new to risk analysis methods. There are several useful sections in the book that briefly introduce the reader to the shipping scene and set the mood by defining the rules and regulations that govern fishing and merchant vessels. Once these safety requirements are established, the various safety assessment and risk analysis tools available to the reader are highlighted. The methods presented are based on the Formal Ship Safety Assessment framework and are demonstrated using practical examples.
