SULZER RTA—38 AND RTA—48 TYPE DIESEL ENGINES SERVICE BULLETIN — REGULATION OF CYLINDER LINER LUBRICATION

Sulzer RTA-62 Diesel Engines Service Bulletin - Prevention of Water Carry-Over and Liner Polishing. This is the Technical information to all operators and owners of Sulzer RTA engines. Released by Wartsila in 2003. Numerous piston running-related technical problems have been already reported on these engines when passing the tropical waters.

The results obtained in the course of the relevant investigations are showing that the carryover of water could cause the damage to the oil film consequently leading to the SSW, standing for the sudden severe wear. Hard deposits are forming on the piston crowns because of the excessive amount of lube oil and combustion residues, increasing the danger of impairing the lube oil film on the cylinder liners...
