The next section describes the major types of the drilling rigs, while the third section explains in detail what exactly the rotary drilling is.

The remaining sections of the course are dedicated to the well control, established drilling procedure, directional drilling, and commonly experienced drilling problems. The drilling teams usually comprise of the contractor's personnel, representatives of the operating company, and service and supply companies. The main functions of the drilling engineers include preparation of the drilling programs, and working with the geologists on logging program plus with the other specialists including mud engineers, service/supply personnel, directional engineers etc.

FUNDAMENTALS OF HVAC SYSTEMS

Nowadays, HVAC systems, standing for the "heating, ventilation and air conditioning", are present everywhere. The present publication will definitely serve as an excellent introductory source to all people involved in various activities related to the HVAC systems, including their specification and design, as well as fabrication, installation, operation and periodic maintenance.

Robert McDowall, who is the recognized expert and author of this volume, did his best to describe the main objectives that could be achieved by a HVAC system connected with the environmental control, the very basic functions of the major components forming subject systems, their arrangements and functioning, with the air-water, all-air, and all-water systems being covered, primary equipment of HVAC systems, their operating strategies and distribution, as well as load and space determination.

There is some information provided on how to properly identify the suitable HVAC system type for particular type of application. Air conditioning industry is growing quite fast and there was a need for a single volume providing all required technical info relating to the selection as well as design and day-to-day operation of this equipment. The book was endorsed by ASHRAE, one of the world's leading and widely recognized trade bodies in the industry.

FUNDAMENTALS OF HEAT EXCHANGER DESIGN

This is maybe one of the best sources of technical information for all people who are interested in the design theory and methodology of the performance rating for all types of heat exchangers. It shall be treated as the advanced volume definitely appropriate for the practicing engineers in various thermal sciences and also to the students of the relevant disciplines.

However, some introductory course on the basics of the heat transfer process might be required fro those readers who possess little technical background in this area, to appreciate the whole wealth of information contained in the book. This textbook presents the detailed coverage of some technical subjects that are only mentioned in most of the other books dedicated to the design of the heat exchangers - this would include the temperature effectiveness method, misdistribution of the flow, longitudinal conduction effects and others.

The comprehensive correlations have been explained and well documented. The text part of most of the chapters is supplemented with some examples, graphs, tabular data and other reference information for easier and better understanding of the theory. The bottom-line is that the present publication is a truly excellent book on the thermo-hydraulic design of the heat exchangers and their performance rating.

HOW TO TALK LIKE A LOCAL

When I first told friends that I was embarking on a project collecting British dialect, their first thought was often that I would meet a lot of lonely people. I confess I feared they might be right. The speakers whose gems I was looking for were sure to be the last ones standing, bearers of vanishing vocabularies that would never be replaced. For the word 'dialect' has become synonymous with decline, just as English, we are told, is destined to become monolithic, bland, and peppered with universal lines absorbed from TV and Internet chat rooms.

It has been one of the nicest surprises of my career to learn just how wrong we were. That English is far from losing its edge I already knew — its golden age may even lie ahead of us still — but I accepted without question that it was different for dialect. Like most people I know; I believed that our local vocabularies are being ironed out at the same electric pace as new words are being coined, and for a much bigger audience than a particular neighbourhood. That what we now have is a general lexicon from which everyone, north and south, young and old, draws for expression. What I've discovered in the course of writing this book is that dialect is alive, well, and kicking hard. It's just doing so in new and different ways.

Of course, thousands of beautiful and unmistakably local words are dying out; many have already done so. They are just as surely to be missed as the new are to be celebrated. For the most part they belonged to a world now lost to us — one populated with horse-drawn ploughs, dockers and cotton workers, collieries and tin-mines. The lexicons of these and other industries are still there if you look hard enough, but as the need for them diminishes, so do the aural snapshots of the life they once so brilliantly described. Yet, over the 1,500 years of English's history, it was ever thus — words have come and gone (and often come back again) throughout, but the footprints they leave remain as telline as ever...

HMS VANGUARD — 1944—1960 — BRITAIN'S LAST BATTLESHIP

A perfect publication prepared by Neil McCart and published by Maritime Books some years ago. As the name of this book implies, it has been fully dedicated to the last battleship of the British Navy Fleet, HMS Vanguard. This title will tell the readers about the brilliant service history of the subject vessel, starting from the construction phase. Many great photographs are supplementing the technical and historical parts of the book.

HMS Vanguard is the very last British battleship; unfortunately, subject ship was towed away and got scrapped about forty years ago and is now lost forever. It was the decision made by the Royal Navy to dispense the vessel. The book we are now presenting to your attention features a truly superb combination of narrative part and images effectively describing the entire eighteen year career of the ship starting from the day of her launching and to the final destination point at the breaking yard for scrapping.

The book not only presents an overview of these years of brilliant service but also provides a very detailed description of the vessel at sea, as the author of the book gathered so many excellent illustrations and other supporting materials to make the book practical and easy to use.
