CCS RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND CLASSIFICATION OF YACHTS

The CCS (standing for the Chinese Classification Society) Rules for Construction and Classification of Yachts published in 2012 consist of two big parts - the first part addresses yachts shorter than 24 m while the second one deals with larger yachts.

Each part has five principal chapters - general information, hull structure, machinery and electrical installations, and outfitting. In addition, in the last part some requirements for LPG power-driven yachts are listed. We would say that the publication contains literally all applicable Rules that are to be used during construction/commissioning of the yachts; of course, the Rules for surveys after constructions are also there in the Rulebook. The requirements for the compliance survey have been provided so that the inspectors are fully aware of the total scope of the inspections to be performed on board.

The information relating to the hull structure of the yacht includes three different materials. namely FRP, steel and aluminum. All yacht hull systems have also been addressed together with the shipboard machinery and electrical equipment and outfitting. Truly comprehensive reference book for new building and further maintenance of the yachts.

CCS RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND EQUIPMENT OF SHIPS CARRYING LIQUEFIED GASES IN BULK

These CCS Rules have been developed on the basis of the technical requirements outlines in the IGC Code, which was adopted by IMO MSC by Res. MSC.5(48) and amendments. The authors of the publication aimed it primarily for the vessels carrying liquefied gases and built in full compliance with the Chinese Class Society conditions of classification.

The complete text of the above mentioned IGC Code have been incorporated in the present CCS Rules together with the amendments and some additional paragraphs and interpretations. In case the vessel in question has not been authorized to be issued with the COF, i.e. Certificate of Fitness, all Rules and Flag Administration requirements must be complied with. As declared, the ultimate goal of this document was to provide people with the necessary technical info relating to the classification surveys during the construction and the operation of the ships carrying liquefied gases. The technical requirements that have been included in this rulebook will be of some interest for the crew members and owners of the ships classed with the other Societies, as well.

The Rules contain general provisions, classification and surveys, approval of relevant plans/documents of vessels, additional requirements applicable to the ship hull structures, etc.

CARRIAGE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFRIGERATED CARGOES

The content of this booklet is arranged in two big parts - the first part provides necessary instructions for the carriage of the refrigerated cargoes and the second part is dedicated to the transportation of the frozen fish by reefers. The refrigerated cargoes are commonly perishable to some degree and their safe transportation mainly depends on maintaining the proper storage conditions in the course of the transportation.

This equally applies to all transportation modes and all refrigerated cargoes, though the conditions are considered much more critical for the long journeys and perishable commodities. These cargoes would normally include chilled and frozen goods, including fresh fruits/vegetables. The frozen goods generally will not suffer in case of over-cooling while chilled goods can easily get damaged by the low temperature. Successful transportation of the chilled and frozen goods seriously depends on the correct carriage instructions, defining the technical conditions for the transportation.

Should the carriage instructions be wrong, inadequate, incomplete or contradictory then the problems can definitely be expected, including the risk of cargo loss and subsequent claims. The way of stowing the cargo is also very important for the safe and successful transportation, however this volume is mainly concentrated on the carriage instructions themselves...

CARGO STOWAGE AND SECURING

The correct, satisfactory and adequate securing and stowage of the cargo are of critical importance for the overall safety of the ship's crew, the ship, and the cargo itself. The content of the present LP Guide is intended to take the readers through some fundamental practical rules that shall be remembered by all people involved in cargo operations during each loafing and securing of the cargo; it clearly describes where they can found all relevant rules and regulations, general industry recommendations and required guidance, as well as the recommended established methods that shall be used for specific cargo items; it also provides readers with the necessary guidance related to the points to remember during the planning of the passage and during the passage itself.

The authors of the volume has set out the fundamentals and give the references to the documents providing the rules to follow. The Guide contains lot of the useful information, e.g. relating to the calculation of the lashings, taken from the relevant Codes, but only those considered essential to make the text clearly understood...
