CCS GUIDELINES FOR THE APPLICATION OF STEEL SANDWICH PANEL CONSTRUCTION TO SHIP STRUCTURE

The guidelines officially published by China Register to cover the application of the steel sandwich panels to the construction of vessel structures. The content of the document is setting down all applicable criteria to be used for the assessment of the vessel structures that have been constructed using the SSP, i.e. steel sandwich panels as well as all other requirements contained in the CCS Rules for Classification of Sea-Going Ships.

Note that the guidance provided in the volume shall apply to the mono hull vessels featuring normal form, hull proportion, speed and constructed, either partly or in whole, using the above mentioned panels. The document also provides technical requirements to be taken into consideration during new construction of the hulls as well as overlay construction to the existing vessels. The latter shall only be applicable when the thickness taken after diminution is not less than fifty per cent of the original thickness of the particular plate.

While the opening section is introductory and contains some general information, the next two sections are dealing with the materials, including core material and components together with their testing, and construction procedures. The remaining sections of the guidebook are covering design basis for the panel and arrangement of the primary support members. The typical node design is addressed in the appendix.
