We can use several types of maps to study coasts. Thematic maps show specific information about a geographic area, such as the movement of ocean currents along the coast, the temperature and depth of the water near the shore, or the location of natural resources. When we study coasts, we can also use weather maps to track storms approaching land, nautical charts to help navigate the coasts, and relief maps to identify natural features, such as trenches and reefs.
