THE LUSITANIA

The Old Head of Kinsale is a very steep and extremely rocky promontory jutting aggressively into the Atlantic from the southwest coast of Ireland. On its crest are a lighthouse, a coast guard station and the ruins of an early Celtic settlement. For about two thousand years it has been a vantage point for the people on shore and a familiar and essential landmark to those at sea.

Behind it lies a deep and secure harbor, once the shelter of Spanish and English fleets, and the town of Kinsale, today a sleepy fishing port swollen each summer by the tourist and the yachtsman. There is little to do but talk, and any conversation eventually turns to the Lusitania torpedoed nearby in 1915, with the loss of 1,201 human lives. There is a Lusitania bar, a Lusitania grill and the inevitable Lusitania souvenirs.

Equally inevitable is the Lusitania legend that the great liner was loaded with bullion which is there for the taking for anyone sufficiently rich and determined to risk diving three hundred feet to the granite and current-swept bottom of the Atlantic twelve miles south and two points west of the Old Head.... The publication, as it is clear from the title of this publication by Colin Simpson, is specifically intended to tell readers many true and interesting historical facts about maybe the most fateful of all marine disasters...

THE ILLUSTRATED DICTIONARY OF ELECTRONICS

Here is the eighth, one of the latest, editions of the Dictionary, which has been significantly revised, updated, and clarified, and is now reflecting all latest technological advances. Many new definitions and terms have been included in the different fields of robotics, wireless technology and even artificial intelligence. The team of the authors working on this dictionary made every effort to be accurate yet concise, without any "talking down" to the readers.

Many of the definitions in this book contain cross references providing recommended additional info or allow the comparison with related terms. The expressions bearing the special significance have been printed in italics. Authors made their best to avoid using of the superfluous mathematics, but sometimes equations are still necessary to effectively and completely define a term.

However, no mathematics beyond the high school level has been used. The Appendix A addresses the standard symbols that are used in electrical/electronic diagrams and such symbols are also used in the illustrations throughout the dictionary. Appendix В contains the data tables addressing conversion between electrical systems, Greek alphabet, math functions and operations, prefix multipliers, and resistor color code.

THE GREAT WAR AT SEA

The document presents a newly told naval history of the World War I revealing the major decisive contributions of the sea war to the victory of the Allied Forces. In a global account, the author of this volume, Professor Lawrence Sondhaus with the profound knowledge and understanding of the Navy, is tracing the course of the naval campaigns undertaken in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas, Adriatic and North Seas, and Atlantic, examining the important role of the critical technical innovations in the design and operational performance of the vessels, fire power and wireless means of communication.

The author has charted how exactly the supremacy of the Allied Forces did lead the Central Powers to revolutionizing the naval warfare through the pursuing of the unrestricted underwater warfare, and ultimately prompting Americans to enter the war. The victory in the war against the submarines following the success in clearing the seas of Kriegsmarine cruisers, left the Allie Forces free to use the sea lanes of the world for the transportation of the supplies and people to Europe from the territories located overseas, including United Stated, and this has eventually proven to be one of the major decisive factors in the victory.
