Another rare and classic marine publication, this one is one of the oldest manuals on marine engineering. The content of the publication reflects the situation in the maritime industry and marine engineering as of the year 1896. Even taking into account that there have been so many significant developments and changes in the marine engineering field since then, the main concept and fundamentals of the engineering remain unchanged throughout the century.

The manual was originally developed with the intention of the author to supply the needs of the students and engineers with respect to the basic principles of design and construction of the shipboard machinery. The data on which the content of the book bases, was collected during the decades of both theoretical study and also practical work. The rules and formulas that are introduced in the pages of this volume shall be used by the people engaged in the design of the machinery.

We would say that the publication will be of great use to the persons willing to get the understanding of the machinery since it covers virtually all aspects of marine engineering including nominal and indicated horse power, efficiency of the shipboard engines, ship resistance, simple and compound marine engines, mean pressure, expansion of steam, parts of the engine, condensers and pumps, propellers, valves and associated diagrams, boilers and many other areas.
