The publication contains the proceedings of the international conference dedicated to the marine pollution by oil. Man has always influenced the surrounding environment, but at the very beginning the traces of people's activities were almost not noticeable and the effects of those activities to the equilibrium of the eco-system were not serious at all.

As soon as the human started to use the tools, people were able to influence their surroundings in much more drastical way, and that is actually the time when the things started to go wrong. The environment condition we have today is the result of people's activities. The first section of the title is dealing with chemical/physical behavior of oil in marine environment and with the associated biological processes, while the second chapter addresses the effects of oil and its compounds on the eco-systems, populations and species.

The third section of the volume provides readers with the results obtained during the monitoring of both biotic and abiotic compartments of marine eco-systems. And the fourth section is dedicated to the several specific cases of the risk management and analysis on the basis on existing scientific technical knowledge. Definitely recommended title for those willing to be up-to-date with all happenings in the field of marine science.
