This training course was developed by the Indian Maritime University in order to provide students with the reference materials for preparation to the relevant examinations. The book is arranged in twenty sections each of them addressing one topic. Starting with the introductory section, the reader proceeds to the DSC, standing for the digital selective calling, and distress, urgency and safety communications.
The RT and Inmarsat communications are discussed in the next sections, followed with the information on EPIRBs, GMDSS two-way VHF radio telephones and SARTs, together with the Maritime Safety Information., or MSI for short. The general regulations governing the use of the radio equipment including GMDSS have been dealt with in a separate section. The students will also find all they need to know about the traffic charging, antennas and power supply, as well as the GMDSS frequencies.
Note that the AIS, LRIT and SSAS have also been covered in detail. The questions and answers for the oral exam have been included for reference. The publication is recommended for use to all those people preparing for their exams and willing not only to get the high results but also to have a good understanding of the subject.
