The IACS CSR for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers released in 2014 consist of two parts - General Hull Requirements and Ship Types. The first part covers rule general principles, general arrangement design, structural design principles, loads, hull girder strength, hull local scantling, direct strength analysis, buckling, fatigue, other structures, superstructure, deckhouses and hull outfitting, construction, and ship in operation - renewal criteria. The second part of the book addresses bulk carriers and oil tankers, specifically.

These IACS CSR shall apply to the bulk carriers and oil tankers constructed with double hull, self-propelled and with unrestricted area of navigation, that were contracted on or after July 2015. The typical structural arrangements of the vessels dealt with in these Rules assume double bottom of the depth complying with the requirements of the applicable statutory instruments, and the engine room located abaft the tank/cargo hold area. Note that the Rules do not apply to ore and combination carriers, woodchip carriers, cement, sugar and fly ash carriers (if loading and discharge is not done by grabs heavier than ten tons or power shovels and any other means which might possibly damage the structure of the cargo hold), and the vessels with the construction of the inner bottom adapted for self-unloading of the cargo.
