This is one of the best volumes for the boaters of those available today. The book opens with the information about the responsibility and change of commands including the authority, duties and responsibilities, rental of the commercial boats and their use etc. The second chapter is devoted to the seamanship and here the author addresses such critical aspects as boat safety and handling, weather, standard equipment on board, lifeboat and rescue boat navigation, survival and first aid.

This chapter is followed by two chapters covering the pilotage, where the navigation aids and rules of the road are addressed, and boating etiquette and insignia. Seven appendices to the main part of the book provide additional information on such areas as navy boats, checklists used when engaged in boat handling, special onboard equipment, namely aircraft rescue kit, special signals in use, PQS theory, and commonly used terminology.

The book is a genuine treasure for all people intending to make voyages on the boats and willing to get better prepared for handling their boats in the safe and efficient manner, as they will have all necessary information readily available in the pages of this nice volume without having to check several separate books.
