INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING MECHANICS

This book is intended to provide any engineer with the essential technical knowledge of the integrated mechanics. The authors of the present release of the book are using the continuum mechanics to demonstrate the connections existing between the engineering structures and design and also between fluids and solids, helping readers learn how they can predict various effects of stresses, acting forces and strains.

The "continuum checklist" provided by them gives a framework for a broad variety of problems in the mechanics of solids and fluids. They are trying to assist the readers in developing a proper physical intuition for the behavior of fluids and solids and other materials, including bio-materials, through building the formulations from the one-dimensional to 2D and 3D. The content of this book shall serve as a very accessible and easy-to-follow first introduction to the engineering mechanics, incorporating a broad range of real real-life cases to highlight its relevance in all contexts.

The volume is also offering a very useful and practical perspective for all engineers who are concerned with mechanical, chemical and other fields of engineering. This edition of the book contains even more live examples and problems; its text part defines and presents the template to be used for continuum approach, introduces stress/strain in one dimension, extends the existing concepts to higher dimensions, connects fluid and solid mechanics, considers applications in mechanics etc.

BASIC THEORY OF STRUCTURES

We know that nowadays there are so many really excellent books available on theory of structures; however this classic textbook definitely deserves close attention of the professionals and students of mechanical engineering. One of declared purposes of the publication was to provide students and pros with a very easily digested form of training course covering a very wide area of theory of mechanical structures in order to stimulate their interest.

Considerable portion of this book was dedicated to the basic theoretical concepts of the behaviour of structures. There are some good control questions at the end of each chapter; they shall be used to track the progress and understanding of the material. We would strongly recommend to make as many attempts in solving them as possible. The correct answers to all numerical questions have been provided. The authors divided their work into twelve chapters, starting with the one addressing the equilibrium of structures; the following chapters deal with the shearing force/bending moment, complex stress and rolling loads, statically determinate plane trusses, deflection of beams, combined bending, direct stresses, buckling of struts, defection of trusses - both graphical and strain energy methods; in addition, separate chapter is there dedicated to the reinforced concrete.

BASIC HYDRAULICS

Today, we are introducing a very unusual training source specifically developed by the HIAB, standing for the Hydrauliska Industri AB. All materials contained in this publication have been presented in the form of illustrations with minimum text - just imagine, really no any tiresome theoretical chapters, boring data tables and any other stuff making people think about learning hydraulics as of the very difficult and uninteresting activity.

The content of this spectacular volume covers literally all important aspects of hydraulics. It has been arranged in two big parts. The first part provides some general overview of the hydraulics fundamentals, addresses the relevant signal systems and valves, for example the shut valves and load-sensing valves including ones equipped with the pressure compensator. The pressure compensators are deal with in a separate chapter.

Same approach has been applied to the coverage of pressure relief valves, load-holding valves, signal-pressure relief valves, spools and shunt function. In turn, the second half of the publication is mainly dealing with the most important features of energy transfer types. The book will be of truly great interest to the students making their first steps in learning the hydraulics owing to the way of presentation of the material, it is so informative and easy to understand that we could recommend the book even to the non-technical people.

ADVANCED VIBRATION ANALYSIS

An excellent title delineating a comprehensive theory and providing the foundation required to build a good math basis to perform the analysis of a model of a physical systems under vibration. The volume is illustrating how exactly the physics of the problem in question is utilized for the development of the more specific analytical framework.

The author of this volume has elucidated a general basic theory which would apply to continuous/discrete systems and also includes proofs of the important results, particularly ones instructive for the proper understanding of the result. The volume starts with the discussion of the physics of systems consisting of the particles and rigid/deformable bodies together with the physics and math for analysis of the single freedom degree systems.

He has also illustrated the analysis and development of the linear operations commonly used in solving numerous problems and formulating the equations that do govern the responses of the non-linear systems in terms of different operators. The author has also paid particular attention to the free response of the above mentioned systems and non-self-adjoin systems and explored the proven and effective methods of the correct determination of the forced response plus the approximate solutions methods for continuous systems.
